기본기 익히기

 

1. 하나의 문장에는 하나의 주어와 하나의 동사가 일치한다.

The company expanded its cafeteria.

The new expense report format was simple and accurate.

 

2. 주어와 동사의 수를 일치시킨다.

Jane usually has dinner at 6 o'clock.

Tom and his friends visit their parents regularly.

 

3. 주어가 생략된 명령문과 조동사 뒤의 동사는 원형을 사용한다.

Please accept our apology for thelate delivery of your order.

You may request a refund or a replacement for any damaged item.

 

주어 동사의 수일치

 

1. 단수주어 + 단수동사

  단수명사 + 단수동사

  3인칭 대명사 + 단수동사

  동명사 + 단수동사

  Limiting the use of air-conditionings system in the office reduces the morale of employees.

  To 부정사 + 단수동사

  To meet the deadline for an assigned project is a basic obligation of an office worker.

  명사절 + 단수 동사

  What I heard on the news was about a new medical breakthrough.

 

2. 복수주어 + 복수동사

  복수명사 + 복수동사

  Invitations (to the workshop) have been sent to all department supervisors.

  복수 인칭대명사(you/we/they) + 복수동사

  They have agreed to come to the office to conduct special classes.

  복수대명사(many 많은 사람들, few 소수, both 둘 다) + 복수동사

  Many (people) hasitate to book flights in other countries because of communication problems,

  but few(people) consider taking the time to study a foreign language.

 

단수 수량 표현 주어의 수일치

 

1. every / each + 단수명사 + 단수동사

  Every employee has[have] a right to receive at least one month's notice of dismissal.

  Each office in the building is[are] equipped with a radio system.

 

2. one[each] of the + 복수명사 + 단수동사

  One of the most important factors in achieving success at any company is[are] having team spirit.

 

3. the number of + 복수명사 + 단수동사  (a number of + 복수명사 + 복수동사)

  The number of freelance journalists has[have] increased rapidly in recent years.

 

4. 부정대명사 + 단수동사

  anybody / everybody / nobody / somebody / anyone / everyone / no one / none / someone /

  anything / everything / nothing / something

  No one from the Marketing Department was[were] able to attend the meeting this morning.

 

복수 수량 표현 주어의 수일치

 

1. A series of / A variety of / A group of  / Several (of) + 복수명사 + 복수 동사

A series of lectures are taking place on February 5 in Morris Town Community College.

 

2. -s 가 붙지 않는 복수명사 + 복수동사

People(who have hig-blood pressure) get a doctor's admission before starting an exercise regimen

* 복수형(-s) 이지만 단수로 취급해야 하는 명사

학문명 : economics / statistics / linguistics etc.

일반명사 : news / analysis / headquarters / series / species etc.

고유명사 : the United States 

 

3. A number[total] of + 복수명사 + 복수동사

 A number of milk producers are[is] against lowering the costs of milk production due the fear

 that it will result in poorer quiality milk.

 

숙어구문과 there 구문의 수일치

 

1. A and B + 복수동사,  each and every 단수명사 + 단수동사

  Mr. Jackson and Mrs.Ciccone were invited to a luncheon.

  Each and every job application was reviewed with careful consideration.

 

2. A long (together) with B | A in addition to B | A as well as B

   => A와 수일치

   Either A or B | Neither A nor | Not(only) A but (also) B

   => B와 수일치

Used paper bags along with a plastic cup were strewn on the table.

Neither Mr.Chang nor his co-workers have heard about the notice.

 

* of 뒤의 명사에 따라 수 일치 시키는 구문

all / most / half / any / a lot (lots) / some / part / the bulk / the rest / the majority / 숫자 + percent

+ of the + 단수명사|복수명사 + 단수동사|복수동사

All of the employees were asked to keep the details of the proposed merger to themselves

for at least another week.
